David’s Story
What happens when a passion becomes part of the healing process? David’s story is a powerful example of how purpose, creativity, and community can support mental health and emotional well-being.
After experiencing significant health challenges that led him to move into long-term care, David faced the difficult transition of adapting to a new way of life while coping with the loss of independence and familiar routines.
With support from OhioGuidestone’s mental health services brought to a long-term care facility, David worked alongside his therapist to rediscover what mattered most to him: bringing people together through food.
That journey led to the creation of “Cooking with David,” a monthly cooking class where he shares recipes, teaches fellow residents, and creates memorable dining experiences. What began as a way to reconnect with a lifelong passion has grown into a meaningful source of purpose and community for both David and his neighbors.
Today, David continues to use his talents to enrich the lives of others, proving that healing can happen in unexpected places—even around a shared meal.
